They received expensive new controllers which were subsequently transplanted into the WF R-36s.

I remember seeing the destroyed car 3333 in Jamaica Yard for some time afterwards before it finally got scrapped. It was almost cut in half after it collided with a wall after derailing.

I never heard anything about new controllers. AFAIK, the GOH R-30s retained their original control and brake equipment which was repaired to as close as possible original condition. The only thing actually changed on the R-30s was the door control system which was modified to the Vapor system used on other GOHed cars. Even the variable load valves remained the same.

My uncle worked at Vapor Corporation from 1972 until his retirement in 1981. He was part of the team that designed the wheelchair lift for buses.
