Tuscarora Almanac – December 12, 1912 – The Book of First Runs

Allentown, Pennsylvania
Lehigh Valley Transit

Lehigh Valley Transit begins operation of a high speed interurban service between Allentown and Upper Darby Pennsylvania which becomes known as the Liberty Bell Route. Cars run over the tracks of the Philadelphia & Western Railway between Norristown and the 69th Street Terminal in Upper Darby. This service will last until 1951.

Norfolk, Virginia
Norfolk & Western Railway

The Norfolk & Western Railway begins operation of a daytime streamlined train between Norfolk, Virginia and Cincinnati, Ohio. It will be known as “The Powhatan Arrow”, No 25 westbound and No. 26 eastbound.

Jersey City, New Jersey
Erie Railroad


The Erie Railroad discontinues ferry service between Jersey City and Chambers Street. The final run was made by the ferryboat “ARLINGTON” which was built in 1903.

Also on this date the Erie RR‘s Northern Branch commuter trains were transferred to the Lackawanna RR’s Hoboken Terminal.

Tuscarora Almanac – December 12, 1978 – The Book of Wrecks

Manhattan, New York
New York City Transit Authority – IND Division

A southbound “CC” train derailed south of 59th Street on the Eight Avenue Line, injuring several people. The train consisted of eight R-10’s; 3206, 2978, 3018, 3300, 3087, 3274, 3333 and 2975. 3274 and 3333 were badly damaged.

The first train of overhauled R-30's enters service today on the "J" Line.
The cars are painted in the "Fox Red" or "Redbird II" scheme. The consist is (s)
