He's specifically referring to the Atlantic Terminal area.
The rebuild, the bottom up tech used to overhaul the mezzanine.. incorporating the Mall into the Subway/commuter rail terminal.

"A" train schedules are not accurate. On a Sunday afternoon, Broad Channel to 34th/8th takes one hour every time I take it. Schedule says 53 minutes. I don't know where they lose the time.

In the book, "Change at Ozone Park", I believe they have pictures of diesel-hauled freight.

Yep, along with this 1940 aerial shot of a work train piloted by a G53sd 4-6-0 on Jamaica Bay driving home new piles needed when ice floes knocked the wooden trestle ROW out of alignment. Very costly for the LIRR. JUst another reason why the railroad wanted to unload the line on the City even back then.

He already has. Its called the "Subway Calendar" and the e finest photographic record of the subway system that I have ever seen.
