The WB was over built.
That worked in it's favor for years.
The main issue was it's cable systems.
They were shortcutted, lacking the proper weather proofing.Salty sea air ate them right up...

Considering how fast it took them to build the span across the river... I'd say it definitely lacked the 40 ft stiffening truss the WB had.

I remember very scary news photos of rusted away girders on the WB approach from the Manhattan side. I believe that part was completely rebuilt from scratch.

And yes the WB cables were originally coated in linseed oil rather than being properly shielded from the elements.

I think you need to address the real issue.
If it wasn't for people like Trump, you wouldn't have SJWs fighting everything under the sun.
There are No such thing as "fine people on Both sides.."

What bothers me is how you people normalized criminal behavior simply because he is a man of means.
He is a perpetual, habitual law breaker.
His government is comprised of yes men and co conspirators.
The truth being shown by so many

simple answer. cell coverage in subways requires installing antennas throughout. Spend the money, get reception. As to whether it is a good idea, a year or so back BART folks shut off the cell antennas during some demonstration--not a behavior I support.

True indeed, but I did say 'People like Trump'...
The SJWs had Obama jumping through hoops, forcing him to try to over please the masses.
While his heart was in the right place,he allowed too much.
On the flip side, the Republican disrespectful attitude toward him for One very specific reason, was the shame that lives on through the current president.
Obama's given was the Fact that he did try to help the poor, and middle class... something Trump and company promised for votes.. but tossed under the bus at first opportunity.

All he wanted was to be president, but didn't really understand what that meant.
He's used his office for capital gain... tax cuts..etc.

Further more, his attack on people of color shows his Klan roots.
He is a white nationalist wanna be, Waring with Mexico and other Spanish speaking countries... disrespectful to Africa and it's nation's... while embracing Russia and North Korea, established enemies of the Americans.

If Obama did Anything close to what this man has done, you not only would have helped build the jail to put him in, you would have made sure it was as close to Hell as possible.

So really, Government has been in the control of White people since concept, and Your people haven't been kind.

This "Garbage' started when the Tea Party started to get rid of the moderate Republicans, in the early 2000's. Then, the Democrats started to move from the center, to the left. Without moderates from both parties getting elected and working together, Congress is doomed to do nothing. Like it or not, most of out important legislation was accomplished with some give-and-take from both parties.

Antennas are already installed in the subways for train to wayside radios so it shouldn’t be too much of a leap to have them set up to receive and transmit cell phone signals also.

I doubt even that. Since stations are equipped fo cell phone and WiFi communication the phone signal coming through the inter station antenna should easily be able to transmit to the stations’ WiFi receivers.

It's a pity I never walked the WB before it was rebuilt. It would have been interesting to see evidence of the aborted attempt to bring the subway into Manhattan as an el. The walkway would also provide better views than the current one, surrounded by wire mesh. :-S

The walkway after the mahattan Anchorage was the remaining piece of the elevated structure.
That was the reason why the tracks elevated away from the main deck of the bridge.
When the plans were changed mid build, well you know what happened.q

The original Essex/Delancey St terminal had been built for the BRT by the NYC Dept of Bridges. The station, with subsequent extensions to Chambers St, were built to placate the BRT after a series of setbacks dating back to 1992. First, the City (Manhattan) refused to allow the BRT president, Fredrick Uhlmann, to construct its own bridge to Manhattan. Then, right after their bridge charter expired in 1896, construction of the Williamsburg Bridge began the same year. In 1898, construction and completion of the WillyB was taken over by the now-unified City of New York. When the bridge opened up in 1903, the BRT refused to send any el lines over it. This was due to a dispute over charges for each train. After an accord was reached, construction began in 1906 and Delancey St station opened in 1908. I had read somewhere that the IRT's elevated lines were also interested in that elevated structure, as a spur off of its elevated lines. Perhaps, that motivated the BRT to return to the table.
