Re: It's officially announced: F Express service in Brooklyn

For those of you who don’t know the history, the change in fan design was the result of passenger input. Sometime circa 1965, the TA equipped 4 R-27/30s each with a different design of fan. 2 of the cars had conventional axiflow fans set at various speeds and 2 had axiflow fans with a flat baffle with holes at various places along the edge. The cars for put on display for a couple of weeks on the seldom used B3 exp tk at 34/6, and passengers were invited to enter the cars, check out the comfort level of the different cars and vote on which ventilation system they preferred. The design which won out was the design with the baffle which as installed as original equipment became what was installed on the last of the R-32s, the 38s and the non A/C R-40s.

But then you’d need to terminate the F at Church Avenue full time. I don’t think Church can turn both the F and the G. With both the F and an SAS branch service, Culver would be ridiculously over-served. I presume it would be a branch because having the main T service reverse-branch with the F between Brooklyn and Manhattan.

If both the R and M can terminate at CTL, then turning both the F and G at Church shouldn’t be that difficult.

Ironically enough its abandonment was announced the same day the newspapers covered the news of the first space mission to successfully put a man on the moon.

One thing CTL has which Church doesn't is the ability to go to the yard if there isn't space to lay up. Remember the G relays at Ditmas middle a few years ago?

Well the Ditmas option is of course available in the event that Church itself becomes congested. On the iRT, very often relays at Parkchester had to go to the Westchester Yd leads if the middle was occupied.
