My favorite movie. "Speed" is my second favorite.

I agree...transit wise these are my # 1 and # 2. # 3 is Silver Streak.

I like Silver Streak, it had trains and it was extremely funny. Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor made an excellent team.:)

UGH...with Vincent D'Onofrio as Mr. Blue. Don't like that version at all. None of it was even filmed in NY, it was shot in Toronto.

And Lisa Vidal (fresh off "High Incident") as the C/R, IIRC.

The only redeemable part is the rigging for the getaway, which is quite accurate as compared to the novel. The front cab window was broken out in the novel in order to join the pieces of pipe together. You can't blame the TA for not allowing that in the original movie because you had a revenue active car being used. The TTC cars used in the remake were about to be scrapped, so chances are TTC management didn't care if a window was busted out.

Both the 2009 version (which I went to see myself - wife wouldn't go- after work one evening) and the late 1990s TV version with Jimmy Smits totally, royally, massively, hugely, sucked moose ass.

My opinion, anyway.

Ah, interesting.

Also explains why they could destroy (pretty much) the revenue "car" in Money Train. It was already decommissioned from regular service.

Wait...Jimmy Smits was in the TV version? I thought it was Edward James Olmos (Garber), Vincent D'Onofrio (Mr. Blue), Richard Schiff (Mr. Green), Lorraine Bracco (someone else in HQ, forgot the name) and Donny Walberg as Mr. Grey.

The real one is a classic in that it captured the aura and mood of the city in general and the subway in particular in the early 1970's.

Caz Dolowicz is a subway icon.

I just checked...turns out you were right---it was Olmos. I really, really thought I remembered Smits, of "NYPD Blue" fame in it.

Either way, it, and the 2009 cinema version, sucked- to put it kindly.

I work for a non-transit state agency. In 1999-2000, I had a boss who looked and acted just like Caz. Lifelong NYer, overweight, and ready to totally blow his stack at any time. Very occasionally, he even had a good reason for an outburst. But usually, his eruptions were background noise.
