I have a question regarding the 1989 New York Division Bulletin article about the 1935 "motorization" of the Eighth Avenue streetcar line. I know June 1, 1956 was the effective date the route was run by Fifth Avenue Coach Lines Inc., but on what day in November 1951 was New York City Omnibus Corporation listed as taking over operation from Eighth Avenue Coach? |

The official NYC Bureau of Franchises number of the Eight Avenue bus route was M-41. NYC Omnibus Corp.owner of Eighth Avenue Coach Corp assigned its own route number as 10.The current route designation is M-10. |

At the same time (c.1935) the BoF assigned M-41 to the Eighth Avenue route (and M-42 to what EAC/NYCO ran as 11, Ninth and Amsterdam Avenues which was also "motorized" on this date), they also assigned franchise numbers for two more short extensions for FACCo routes: M-43 - West 57th Street and 12th Avenue (which led to their 20 - 57th Street Crosstown route's extension west from Columbus Circle to 55th Street and 12th Avenue in 1937) and M-44 - Lewisohn Stadium (used on special runs of Routes 3 and 5 in the summertime during summer concerts there). |

Well, yeah, since about the 1910's - but of course the BoF had to get involved, didn't they? And of course, after all the Manhattan TARS streetcar routes were converted to buses under STS in 1946-47, the M-100, M-101 and M-104 stopped at or around the Stadium. On the BusChat thread, I will soon be posing a question to all you experts as to buses to Lewisohn in their last years of summer concerts - which also were the first four years of MaBSTOA. |

I cannot find anything for that takeover in Nov, 1951. Most of the news, at that time, centered around labor disputes to reduce the bus drivers to a 40 hour week. |

I had entered a Bus Almanac in BusChat ('W.B.'s Bus Almanac for November 8th') detailing what was touted by the newspapers as a "merger" of NYC Omnibus with Madison Avenue Coach and Eighth Avenue Coach as approved by the PSC on Nov. 8, 1951 and dated effective Nov. 1, 1951 for accounting purposes (never mind that, as the proper period of time had passed by then, it was "okay" for NYC Omnibus to have ALL its routes under that one umbrella, as opposed to a total of four lines under those "subsidiaries"). But I presume the late Mr. Linder's article on the Eighth Avenue line (as cited by 'IRTRedbirdR33' as his source) would have had a date somewhere between that . . . |

That route portion was assigned M-32 (as Morningside and Convent Avenues) by the Bureau of Franchises in late 1933. That was one of 14 franchises of short extensions granted by them to FACCo. (The St. Nicholas portion of the route was franchised as M-28.) |
