New York City Transit Authority
IRT Division

Tuscarora Dispatch No 6

IRT Service Changes October 1965
Sunday, October 17, 1965 was the last day for the second season of the New York World’s Fair. It was also the last day of operation for the No. 7 World’s Fair Special.
Accordingly a new IRT schedule was put into effect on this date. The most important change was the restoration of 24 hour express service on the Lexington Avenue Line for the first time since 1960. A new weekday midday Flushing Express service went into effect on Monday, October 18. These trains run between Main Street and Times Square. They operate express between Willets Point and Grand Central with one stop at Queensboro Plaza. Trains leave Main Street from 10 AM to 1 PM and leave Times Square from 1 PM to 3 PM.
Unfortunately there were some cutbacks as well. Weekend operations of No.3 trains to Flatbush Avenue and No. 5 trains to South Ferry would end at 9 PM instead of midnight.

As always, thanks for these.

How long did Conrail/Metro North run the SPV-2000 and how many cars did they have?

Last time I went up for the Fall Foliage/Shop Tour years ago, they still had those in the boneyard north of Croton Harmon shops.

Then entered service on October 17, 1991. By late 1993 there were out of service except in case of emergency. I rode a two car train on September 23, 1993 for Beacon to Croton. This may have been the last time that they were used in revenue service.

Yes I saw two of them around in the early 2000s which is the last time I took the trip up to Poughkeepsie by rail.

If I recall the MTA had 10 cars and CDOT with Amtrak markings had 12. Dutchrailnut should know the true fact on this one.

The MTA purchased ten, 290-299.

CDOT purchased 13, no 50 was painted in CDOT colors and used on the Danbury Shuttle. Nos. 988-999 were owned by CDOT and leased to Amtrak for service on the Springfield Line. They were painted in Amtrak colors.
Amtrak removed these cars from service in December 1985. Four cars (at least), 988, 990, 992 and 998 went into service on Metro-North although they were still owned by CDOT.
