Why wasn't Friday's Atlantic Ave 11:10pm half-hour "stop" due to homeless person posted on MTA?

Posted by BrooklynTrain on Mon Sep 24 22:06:31 2018

Friday 11:10pm to 11:40pm, downtown F at Atlantic, first car, homeless guy lying across the seats and passed out, blood coming out of a bandage on his forehead. Conductor goes on radio then walks to front car to investigate. Meanwhile several F, N and R's were immediately behind it due to prior delay in service. But since express track was occupied by work train at Atlantic, nothing could get thru. Also backed up Q trains since nothing could enter/leave DeKalb either.

Why wasn't this posted on the MTA web site and MTA twitter feed as a delay? MTA should be more specific about the reason for the delay: They should let customers know it's because of a passed-out homeless individual. That's what I told customers who were waiting and waiting and waiting. They deserve to know the truth. November 6th is approaching.

All dispatch knows is that a train is stopped, usually does not know why, at least not right away. Mediacl issues need their privacy.

Besides, how would it seem if the C/R announced
"There is a homeless dude sprawled out across the seats with blood coming out of his head."

Relax, you will get home eventually.

Welcome to the city. It takes a lot of patience to live in a city of nine million people who are not you.

The MTA web site and Twitter could have mentioned a 30 minute "dead stop" in service without going into details. Are they incompetent to not list this delay, or are they trying to hide this (and other incidents) to make the number of delays seem not as bad?

This delay wasn't in the email feed.

I've experienced many delays, regardless of cause, that were not reported on the email feed.

Did you Email MTA asking them why this delay was not posted?

NYCTA employees are instructed to be extremely careful when describing delays to the passengers. About the only thing the C/R could say would be the train is delayed due to a sick customer (passenger). Why the incompetents at the MTA insist on using the word “customer” rather than “passenger” i could never understand.

The F was running via the West End due to a G.O. D ran down Culver due to entire 6th Ave being shut down due to G.O.

Perhaps the sick individual is not yet a passenger (they may be on the platform). Just an idea?

If they are on NYCTA property within the fare controls, then he/she is a passenger.

They never say due to a fire. It is always reported as a “Smoke Condition”.
