Under the El. We are looking west along Myrtle Avenue some time after 1944 (that year the Raymond Ingersoll Houses, right, were built).

And here is a 1948 view of a Ridgewood-bound trolley on Corona Avenue in Elmhurst. 91st Place is on the left, and right turn past the theater is the Hampton Street bridge over the LIRR Port Washington Line.

I remember this vacant lot and billboard from my childhood, and the streetcar tracks were still visible until the early 1960s.

I remember seeing in the Daily News a photo of the crushed front end of 986. The R10 did not appear to be as badly damaged.

Thanks as always!!!

I have a question- was the R31 vacuum train any good? I know that the R137s have not been considered a success, and I was until now, unaware of any previous efforts to run vacuum trains.

Main: The was a big media display promotion and demonstration when the train was new. After that we didn't hear much about it. I don't think that it did very well. Maybe someone here knows more.
