Tuscarora Almanac – July 17, 1877 – The Book of First Runs

New York & Sea Beach Railway

Service begins between Bath Junction (62nd St & New Urecht) and the Sea Beach Palace in Coney Island. Service was discontinued on September 1, 1877. Service resumed on July 17, 1879 with trains running between the 65th Street Dock in Bay Ridge and Coney Island during the summer months.

The IRT Lexington Avenue Line opens from Grand Central to 125th Street. New stations are opened at Grand Central - 42nd Street, 51st Street, 59th Street (Upper Level), 68th Street, 77th Street, 86th Street, 96th Street, 103rd Street, 110th Street, 116th Street and 125th Street.
Track connections allowing Lexington Avenue Line trains to operate south of Grand Central on the contract I Line were made on August 1, 1918.

A lower level express platform at 59th Street will open on November 15, 1962.
The station at 86th Street had two levels; the upper level was for local trains and the lower level was for express trains.
The station at 125th Street had two levels; the upper level was for northbound trains while the lower level was for southbound trains.

The IRT Jerome Avenue opens from 125th Street to 149th Street. A new station is opened at 138th Street - Grand Concourse (then Mott Avenue).

The station at 149th Street had opened on June 2, 1917.

The Myrtle Avenue-Court Street trolley line is discontinued. The final run is made by Peter Witt 8343.

The Flushing-Ridgewood Line (Rt.58) is discontinued also. The final run is made by Peter Witt 8345.

Third Avenue (northbound) and Lexington Avenue (southbound) are converted to one way streets between East 125th Street and East 23rd Street. Route M-101 3rd Avenue-Amsterdam Avenue buses which had previously run on both directions on Third Avenue will now follow the new traffic patterns and be known as M-101 Third Avenue and Lexington Avenue line.

The R-31 Vacuum Cleaner train arrives on the property. It will be numbered 20500 A-B-C.
Two 1938 World’s Fair-Steinway motors will provide motive power; 20501 x 5660 and 20502 x 5689.

Tuscarora Almanac - July 17, 1970 - The Book of Wrecks

A northbound “E” train keyed by a red signal north of the Hoyt-Schmerhorn Streets station in Brooklyn and crashed into the rear of a stalled “A” train north of the Hoyt-Schmerhorn Streets Station. 37 persons were injured.
The E train consisted of 10 R-6’s, (n) 986-1161-1183-1318-1055-1141-944-958-905-1136 (s).

The A train consisted of 10 R-10’s, (n) 3065-3173-3076-3309-3234-3327-3089-3080-3338-3133-3062 (s).

Effective this date R-17’s are no longer operating on the # 3 7 Avenue Express. The only place to ride the R-17’s is now on the 42nd Street Shuttle.
