Even though we all loved the classic prewar cars of the IRT and IND, at the time they ruled their respective divisions, they all looked alike with the possible exception of the IRT WF cars. The only one of the divisions prewar that had any semblance of variety was the BMT which had a few variations of their ABs as well as D types and Multis. The prewar IRT and IND probably seem boring to the railfans of the day so it shouldn’t be too surprising that the current generation of commuter rail and rapid transit cars will tend to be a bit boring in their own way.

They could at least do a full length stripe.

MNRR cancelled their order, so there will just be a LIRR version, picture so a design where the (now) classic yellow LIRR front stripe is darkened to match NYS gold. Then as it crosses to the sides it tapers off to NYS blue with the gold being relegated to a thin line at the top or bottom of the stripe.

Bland silver boxes are "out". RTD, SEPTA, MARC and MBTA all make an effort to distinguish their equipment. Hell even NJT tries with their weird gradient.

NYS's distinguishing feature is bland silver tapered-side rectangles. Hell they couldn't be bothered to blue stripe the Comet 5 for MNRR, those are quite easy to spot in a consist as they are "naked" Comet 5s.

Supposedly these cars are riddled with interior amenities and plush-this and plush-that,
but given LIRR tendency to mismanage and poorly maintain its fleet,
how long will the lustre last (or how long till the perks fade on this surely $$$$$ acquisition)???

I know....nice is nice, but it needs lots of TLC.

Maybe we should just get back to getting folks from point A to B safely & comfortably.

If you peruse the LIRR Twitter, its easy to see how negligent LIRR is with its fleet of cars (torn seats, flooded bathrooms, rainfall inside cars, door panels that wont close at station stops)
And we're gonna give them motorized bathroom doors and expect them to care for them?!?!?

The only sort of full length stripe at the moment is the blue along the window line on a few R-160 trains on the E, the ones with the fold up seats.
