Its too bad that the almighty GG-1 can't be made to go on the road again & show what she can do. But with voltage, PCV & Asbestos issues
to say the least, it's sadly just a pipe dream

There are no voltage "issues" anywhere on the former PRR territory where the GG1 used to run. And there are most likely PCB and asbestos substitute materials that even a GG1 could use with some adaptation.

Biggest problem with all GG-1's was Frame cracks and as long as they were running they stayed clean and only had to be watched , with them sitting around for some 30 years the rust is expanding and enlarging frame cracks, add to that the limited visibility, slow max speed, lack of modern ATC/PTC and absence of HEP .so no you will never see one running again .

Certain of the amenities that the GG1 lacks could probably be installed to bring the engines up to code but the expense would only be worth it if the structural integrity of the frame could be attained and maintained.
