The consist was (S) 516-511-507-506,508-515-513-510. Source: New York Division Bulletin /August 1975 Tuscarora Almanac - July 14, 1997 - The Book of Wrecks Brooklyn, New York New York City Transit Authority IRT Division The last car of a Flatbush Avenue bound # 2 train derailed south of the Franklin Avenue Station at the point where the Nostrand Avenue Line branches off from the Eastern Parkway Line. The consist was (s) 9203-2, 9087-6, 9073-2, 9052-3, 8885-4. R-33 8884 was badly damaged and was reportedly scrapped on the spot. Source: New York Division Bulletin /August 1997. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

Though the R46 looked very much like the R44 from a few years earlier, one noticeable difference was the front sign. The R46 came with the "bullet" that we've had ever since, while the R44 had the route letter inside a circle with no black background. The R44 scrolls were later replaced with the bullet designs. |

The R-44s had a carbon steel band where the blue stripe was while on the R-46s, it's stainless steel. Looking at the R-46s today, you'd never guess they had a blue band at one time. |

Yes, but since both car classes had the same blue stripe, you couldn't tell that the steel underneath the stripe was different, carbon for the R44 and stainless for the R46. The R40Ms and R42s had the same blue stripe on their stainless ripples. |

The reason for the carbon steel on the R-44s was that it was felt that the blue paint would adhere better to carbon steel than it would to stainless despite the fact that the R-40Ms and 42s as well as the M-1s had blue painted on stainless since those cars came from Budd which built only stainless steel. |
