CTrail Hartford overcrowded
Posted by GojiMet86 on Sun Jun 17 14:54:45 2018 Per Facebook: As of 1 pm today, Hartford Line ridership has exceeded available capacity. All train service is only to get people back to their original destination. Buses are being dispatched to Hartford Union Station to relieve heavy crowding conditions. No new customers will be allowed to board at this time.

Here is the update: We are adding trains to relieve crowding. New departures from New Haven at 2:40 pm and from Springfield at 5 pm. Trains will make all stops.

With an event going on at CitiField, it was NOT the time to perform any trackwork (unless it was a true emergency). Caused extensive delays, slow speed orders and true "cattle car" conditions. Frantic pushing, shoving & squeezing at 74th/Roosevelt going eastbound.

Sure is interesting to see the true demand for rail service up there, though.

I feel for the conductors. Imagine having to manually open & close doors at each end of every car, at each station! In this day & age; what the Hell were they (MBTA) thinking when these cars were ordered! My train actually hit 90+ on the n/b trip to Hartford. Some nice high speed rolling through there. Some cars had crappy to NO a/c. With the overcrowding, schedules were difficult to maintain. People were told they had to either stand or wait for another train. Waiting was not an option for me. I stood. We were allowed to stand in the vestibules, and the car with the flat wheel provided for extra special effects. Things got so bad that one train had to be coupled to another to accommodate all the crowds. Then, at every station down to NH the train had stop TWICE, once for the front section, once for the rear section. And of course, no toilets.
