CSX+LIRR via the Hell Gate
Posted by GojiMet86 on Thu May 17 18:37:12 2018 So yesterday, the LIRR cars at Blissville were sent to Oak Point via CSX. But today, for some reason, they sent 3100 and 9931 (ex-9929) back down. I heard the train out my window (I live very close to the NYCR ROW) and thought it was a regular CSX freight until I saw the M3. I had to run up the stairs to catch these shots.

This was one of them. They converted it to 480v AC HEP power cars 3100 to accompany the C-1 bi-levels around 1990, with WABCO bull-cock couplers, and nose chopped off to be the rounded open platform. It also got all stainless siding and M-1 style end doors. Conversion cost them $800K. Then converted back to a 650v DC power pack with the last of the Pullman-Standard trains. It has not run since 2000.

There's supposed to be another set somewhere in Pennsylvania coming up soon.
