I want the external devices. I would prefer that to the proprietary system.

I would like a system that gives the riders the choice. ability to use their device, accommodation to those who prefer a separate card or fob. Hopefully, whatever they implement will have the flexibility to serve the widest audience with the least problems, at a reasonable cost. We shall see.

I don't personally care whether they use a proprietary device, but it doesn't bother me if they do in addition to RFID credit cards.

Same here. In fact I'd prefer if they have their own card as its another one to add to my collection.

I just don't want them to use ONLY a proprietary card, like in DC, or on PATH.

EZ Pass is now compatible through most of the northeast and midwest out to Chjcago.

So I'd prefer one card for PATH, WMATA, RTA in Chicago.

Not likely any time soon. But it may be possible sooner with an RFID-enabled bank card or mobile payments by cellphone - the exact things you refuse to use. Ha!

Then I'll retain my multiple cards. It is not like they are all go out on one trip.

Suit yourself. I'll retain all my cards and only have to use one device to ride all those different systems.

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but during my recent trip to London, I rode the tube frequently (and DLR, and Overground) and paid exclusively using an Apple Watch. I did not buy an Oyster or anything like that. It was much better than in Paris where I bought a mag-stripe ticket and had to pull it out of my wallet every time. And I had to buy separate tickets for RER trips outside the city zone (Versailles and CDG).

So I look forward to contactless payment.

What else can you pay with besides an Apple Watch? A phone?

I think contactless payment is a severe, unnecessary security risk and want nothing to do with it. It's another in the long line of situations where convenience trumps security and people whine afterward when they get burned find that you can't have security without inconvenience. Contactless payment is a solution in search of a problem.

Credit card users are not responsible for charges they did not make. No risk to the user at all

There might be a problem if a person used a DEBIT card instead of a credit card since the same protections usually don’t attach.
