Amazing and sad at the same time. Imagine that headhouse still there but the railroad upgraded for longer trains and modern stock.

Not arguing about the date, but just reflecting upon an interesting point.

The date of the Bowling Green and South Ferry loop stations are 1905!

Just imagine the construction of those subway stations while the elevated trains for 2nd Avenue, 3rd Avenue, 6th Avenue and 9th Street are rumbling above the streets.

Just wow!

There was no room to lengthen those South Ferry platforms, unless you removed the connecting track. A hush-hush agreement between the City and the Manhattan Elevated Rwy in the 1880's, was exposed by yellow journalists in the newspapers. A portion of Battery Park, just west of the station, would have been given to the MER for east and west side loops.
