Tuscarora Almanac - Thank You

Posted by IRTRedbirdR33 on Mon Jan 1 13:00:07 2018

The Tuscarora Almanac now has over eleven hundred entries. It began as “The Book of Last Runs” and then “The Book of First Runs”. Later it expanded to include “The Book of Wrecks” and a few other books as well.

I would like to thank all here who have helped in this endeavor. Several of you have contributed full articles. Many have helped with consist and disposition information. It always good to hear the eyewitness reports from those of you who were actually at an event. Many too have provided newspaper clippings and photos. Several of you have communicated information to me privately and I would like to thank you for that.

The Almanac is an ongoing project but for the month of January I may take a few days off to some research on the Tuscarora Dispatches.

Thank you for all your help and best wishes in the coming year.

Larry, RedbirdR33

The thanks are due to you in regularly providing accurate history to all of us. Certainly the most useful post each day IMHO.

Larry,
Thanks for what you do. Keeps his place interesting, and records
history at the same time.

Thank you for the very informative posts that constitute your Almanac. But as far as I know, the name itself has never been explained. I expect I'm not the only one wondering, why "Tuscarora"?

Dan: I've been using the "Tuscarora" name for my writings for a long time. The "Tuscarora Journal" goes back to 1978.

"Tuscarora" was the name of the sixth and last Indian tribe to joint the Iroquois Confederation.

It was also a train of the Great Steel Fleet of the New York Central Railroad. Train No. 99 "The Tuscarora" ran every day except Saturday from New York to Buffalo.

Whenever I read what went on in the particular day you highlight, I search for some images or related facts.

Thank you
