Why no supplement to NRQD today? 1 hour from Bay Ridge to Atlantic approx 2pm
Posted by BrooklynTrain on Sun Dec 17 17:13:17 2017 Almost every weekend many trains run on 12 min supplememt headways to support trackwork. Inexplicably the N R D and Q were all running frequent headways. Why wouldnt they use reduced headways especially when everything was squeezed onto 4th Ave local and further squeezed via bridge at DeKalb? Catastrophic delays ensued. 1 hour from when we left Bay ridge until we arrived at Atlantic Ave. I bailed at Atlantic to avoid any further delays. Someone majorly screwed up by not having a supplement. Employees called in severely late to work, restaurant plans were either severely delayed or cancelled, theaters delayed their start times by 30 minutes etc. Who was responsible for this major screwup? The appropriate supplements need to run.

Because transit wants it both ways. They want to do all these GO's in December, which used to have a moratorium on weekend GO's, and run regular or even extra service, which the Q had this weekend.

I only post about egregious issues that have a simple solution. Today was simply unforgivable. Solution - it's really common sense: (1) Weekends, run supplements at 12 minute headways if there is associated trackwork. (2) Weekdays, stop the B/C/W at 8:30pm if there is associated trackwork. Someone made a MAJOR screw-up today by running the N, R and D on 10 minute headways (when most other weekends the R & other lines are cut back to 12 minute headways). It makes a major difference in congestion.

How crowded were the trains? Maybe it was determined that 12-minute headways would not be adequate for the crowds of the current season? Not, of course, that this couldn't also be worked around. I hope it's not just that they are afraid to have 12-minute headways in December on the SAS.

Let me get this right, you want MORE trains on for a track that is handling 3 lines already at the normal Sunday headway? With the D stopping at DeKalb and R and Q on the same track everyone was losing time. Won't even talk about the D waiting to go upstairs at West 4th... Huge delays all day for the South of Brooklyn.

I'm guessing they eliminated the December moratorium on G.O.s because they have to get some work done now (and I assume next December) ahead of closing the (L) in 2019 when they likely will need everything else in the best condition possible.

They probably are knowing how much political clout those on the Upper East Side have. That could be fixed by permanently having the (M) go to 96th Street-2nd Avenue on weekends, but then you'd likely have political pressure to make that 24/7 (which is why I have had my plans to split the (M) into (M) and (T) with the (T) going 24/7 between Metropolitan and 96th-2nd).

The MTA is not the least bit concerned with "political clout", i.e. loudmouths from the UES, any more so that the UWS, South Brooklyn, Bushwick, rich doctors in Forest Hills, or anywhere or anybody else.

I kinda doubt that any theater would adjust it's hours based on a subway delay. Maybe for a major weather event. The curtain goes up at the specified time and your ass better be in the seat by then!

An off-Broadway show in lower Manhattan (with a large cast) needed to start over 30 minutes late on Sunday afternoon due to the massive congestion caused by running normal headways (and no supplements). Likely many members of the cast were stuck somewhere along the long conga line of D, N, Q and R trains. A supplement (like is usually done) always solves the problem; shocking why it wasn't done this past weekend.
