I can see that happening to 13th St, but that's redundant if 14th St's bikeway gets restored. I sure hope they don't permanently ban cars from 14th St - it seems unlikely considering the heavy traffic volume. |

It's not what I'd want- but I can foresee the distinct possibility that regular traffic may never be restored to these streets.A lot of "temporary" closures become permanent. The West Side Highway was closed for "reconstruction" (although maybe, we're better off without it), the Culver Express was "temporarily" cancelled in 1987 (the map promises its restoration as soon as repair work is complete!!), and Boston's Watertowwn-"A" line was "temporarily" bustituted. As a railfan and transit user, I much prefer rail, or even bus transit to regular cars and trucks. But let' face it- private vehicles do have a place in our society. Banning them will have spillover effects. NYC can never be Copenhagen. I'm sure Copenhagen is lovely- but we're not it. |

I believe 3 of the 4 available left turns at 14th and 3rd are allowed. Northbound 3rd to westbound 14th is not, or at least not during weekdays.Traffic between 1st and 3rd on 14th in both directions is really relatively light and moves very smoothly. There's a definite advantage if people traveling westbound on 14th and headed downtown have their choice between 2nd and 3rd. Second heading downtown from 14th can get horribly clogged. I wonder if they will kill all street fairs on 2nd and 3rd while 14th is shut. If they don't, a street fair day will look like midtown on tree lighting day. |

I just don't see how this is supposed to help much. Buses are still going to have to deal with the lights at the cross avenues. And it's just my impression that 14th doesn't have quite as much vehicle traffic as other major streets such as Houston or Canal. |

They get their bikes onto the trains already, the difference is instead of rolling onto a train, they'd roll it down a ramp to the trackway and ride to the next station. A temporary urban rail trail. Or a really long transfer passage. |

Typically the evening shift did double the sales of the day shift. That was, however, in the 60s when bookstores stayed open 'til 1 or 2 AM.In the 66 case I commuted home on the subway often stopping for mail at my PO Box at the Farley.
