If it's 135th St & 8th Ave, it's the 6th & 9th Ave el line. Looks like he got struck by a MUDC car.

I have some phots in my collection of a similar accident on the T/Sq Shuttle in which 2 track walkers were struck by a train near the G/Cent end on tk 1. They are even more gruesome than the photo in the article since one of the employees had his leg totally amputated by the train and you can see him lying on the track with the medic attending to his bloody stump. What is interesting about it is that one of the employees was white and the other was black and the while employee was being attended to by a white medic and the black employee was being attended to by a black medic even though this was NYC and it wouldn’t be expected that there would be any sort of segregation but it seems there was just a bit.

Looks to be up on the structure, the aided looks to be pinned between the slats of the catwalk and the motor.

Looks like some kind of rope, maybe to pull him out once the cars is jacked up just enough to free him. The dead done feel pain and I’d rather not place my self totally under the car to retrieve a body.

Hello Ellkeeper

Its is NOT a MUDC trailer Car -- it IS the lead MUDC MOTOR CAR of a 6th Avenue EL local train stopped at the W.135th Street local Station of the 9th Avenue EL where it travels above 8th Avenue..

(a) -- Note the MOTOR TRUCK on front end and its motor casing seen directly above the deceased body and to the left of the mechanical jack..the southbound station platform is to the left of the EL Car - and at right is a train of EL Gate Cars stored in evening layup on the center express track

(b) -- Note the steel under-framing behind and below the Anticlimber - this frame was a Box "U" assembly that was attached to the main carbody frame under the original exterior Body Bulkhead end wall. It was installed only on the under frame on the motor truck end of ALL the IRT EL Motor MUDC and Gate cars.

(c) -- Note the 3rd rail drop sled shoe on the right side of the truck as it rests upon the uncovered 3rd rail

(d) -- Note inside the front vestibule platform, thru the open doorway, the interior carbody thick wood bulkhead wall and the motorman cab booth and its cab-door at left just behind the bulkhead.

regards - Joe F
