I Mean, will there be enuff DE/DM units to move the MARC Cars?Or will all of the passenger cars be used as a single unit, minus a spare or two? Furthermore, if the fix or modification to make these MARC cars compatible with the DE/DM units was presented as a "simple fix", why was it not used on those C-1 type cars of years bygone? Was that so much more complicated? If not, one does wonder. |

Thank you for being patient and all the information. It would have been prudent to design the C-1's so as to be able to remove and replace the key parts and systems to allow an upgrade of the prototypes to the revenue cars. What a lose of an asset. Same with the R/110B subway cars. |

They are not adding any trains - they are lengthening South Shore consists so as not to reduce Friday Oyster Bay and Port Jeff rush hour consist as badly. This MARC train will likely be the 5:47 Hunterspoint - Port Jeff, which is now about 7 C-3 cars, so it must have a DE at each end. . |

They did seriously consider making the C-1's the Parlor Car fleet, and trying to make them compatible with the C-3's. They analyzed it and decided it to be a ridiculously expensive undertaking, and dashed that idea. |

And even if the rules didn't require it, common sense would. In the context of the LIRR, one could reasonably assume that the default is LIRR, but that anything else needs to be specified. |

I though it might start with the 5:47, rather than deadhead it out for the AM rush. How almighty has fallen. In the 1960's until 1972 that train was 17 cars, mixture of P72's, P74's, and P54's with 2 bar cars with ONE Alco C420. From the Huntington electrification to the 1988 Ronkonkoma electrification, it was 13 P72's and ONE GP38, though got a 2nd one in the 1980's. Then it was 11 cars, and by the time I left Long Island in 1992, 10 cars. Then it became a C-3 train of 6, 7, or 8 cars. Now just 5 cars. |
