Chicago Cubs "W" Winning "L" Wraps |

Posted by ChicagoPCCLCars on Mon Feb 27 13:00:12 2017 A Sunday charter sponsored by Central Electric Railfan's Association gave the four wrapped CTA "L" railcars a extra chance to celebrate the World Championship. The charter started at the Howard terminal and went downtown for several trips around the famed Loop "L". The charter rounds the reverse curves at Sheridan Rd. on the Red line.  On the Loop "L" the charter rounds the offset curve at Lake and Wabash.  Another curve, this time at Tower 12 junction, Van Buren and Wabash, the charter received a red over amber signal as it rounds again the 90 degree curve.  A rear photo out of the operators' cab gives a good view of the 6/8 grand union interlocking at Tower 18 at Lake and Wells Sts. Five routes go through this junction, Green, Pink, Brown, Orange, and Purple lines.  On the way downtown, the charter used the track one while Red line revenue trains went SB on track 2. Photo stops were scheduled for five stations. Patrons could photograph the charter from Red line platforms and then catch a Red line train to the next station. A drag from Howard yard followed the charter. I guess the switchmen did not know about the photo stops. This rear end photo shows the results as the drag and a Red line train are side by side. Since CTA became 100% OPTO, the RFW is similar to although a little bit better than the NYCT NTTs. The glass in the T/O’s cab door does not have the NYCT style distortion but it is tinted to cut down on glare and there is some sort of metal screening in front of the window presumably to protect the T/O. |

At least some of the cars still have the left-side window unobscured.Last time I was there, riding the Purple Line the train operator moved his coat which had been hanging there, so I could see out. |

The third photo stop was farther down the line.  The operator poses next to the messages contained in this special wrap.  On the Loop "L" the charter has dropped off the passengers for lunch and the four cars are headed to the 14th middle track for the crews' lunch break. All three photos by ChicagoMotorman. |

As me left 59th we gota flashing yellow, at 63rd a solid yellow and then red over yellow over red to indicate crossing over from the westernmost main to the inside main to take the tunnel to 71st. That M/M called them yellows, not ambers FWIW. Different RR, different century. |
