I see a set of Banker Lights on the wall. I guess they put them up as the regular tunnel lights got wiped out by the crash.

Banker Lights are one bit of "old tech" that's served the test of time..

“Banker lights” are actually an improper name for the 5 bulb lighting fixtures used in work areas. The tram for such a fixture is a “bank of lights” but many employees referring to them spoke in such a pseudo illiterate form of English pronouncing the term “bank o’ lights which eventually morphed into “banker“ lights. Instead of the intelligent people correcting the mispronouncers, they caved and started using the wrong name for those items. When you see a set of those lights on the wall, what you are seeing is a “BANK OF LIGHTS." If you have the intelligence, don’t dumb down, to the level of the illiterates but smarten them up instead.

while I mostly agree, it is worth pointing out that all modern languages are essentially "dumbed down" descendants of ancient speech.

Yes, working people are always grateful when someone of superior intellect corrects their speech.

I understand the history of the name. In fact, I learned it from you :)

I was speaking in colloquial English. I suppose there is no such thing as a "Banker's Light" But there is an "Accountant's Light"...it's that job with a translucent green globe- open at the bottom, and runs parallel to the desk. Usually it's 12-14" above the desk.

The bulb is completely concealed unless you look up into the (non-globular) globe.... Maybe that's close enough to a Banker's Light?

I would also like to point out that a "bank of lights" could refer to the permanently installed fixtures in my bathroom (stainless steel, base down units with 2 sockets/globes each) or any other installation.

OTOH, to us Subchatters, "Banker Lights" means one thing. And I took note what old tech they are...

Agreed. He wasn't criminally incompetent.
