Well, maybe not "rebored," but folks, he's not kidding this time-- they really fouled up even if they have to shave parts of the tunnel. I appreciate that they tested 75' cars even if they don't plan to use them, but why was the geometry cut so close to the bone? Would it have cost that much more to add plenty of wiggle room? |

Sounds to me that what they're really talking about is incorrect placement of trackside furniture. I would be amazed if anything was actually rebored. |

WMATA had a similar issue at the point where the bored tunnels south of Union Station met the cut and cover tunnels under E Street. It was discovered that the center line of the tunnel segments were off by 2". Adjustments were made during track laying. There have been multiple incidents where the feeler car made contact with track side fixtures protruding into the load gauge envelope. Fortunately 75' cars, unlike the R32s, are projected to be around for 20 more years at least, so they actually bothered to fix it. |

It’s too bad they were able to make quick fixes to the rest of the system to accommodate the longer cars. If that hadn’t been possible there would be no 75 ft cars on the NYCTS and that would be a good thing! |

I'm thinking the opposite - until they go open gangway, they should have gone 75' every possible place they could. So I would have made every 5 car set of 60'ers a 4 car set of 75'ers, with 5 doors per side and with R16 style seating. |

People stick their feet out in the aisles. When MTA wants to boast of the increased capacity of a car with bowling alley seats, they show you an empty car, not a crowded train with feet sticking out. |

Wrong! You hardly ever come to NYC because it is too expensive for you! You don't know how to navigate lower Manhattan and you don't bring your smartphone with you when you do come here so you're always getting lost! So you have no idea what the NYC Subway is like during rush hour. Why don't you stay out of this discussion and leave it to the people WHO ACTUALLY ARE OR WERE ABLE TO MAKE A LIVING WORKING IN NYC! We ride the subway daily. In rush hour. We know how it is. YOU don't! |

There are plenty of non-subway commuters on the board. There are also packed trains non rush hours. Walking once about 5 minutes out of my way once out of my way is not "always getting lost". OTOH, You a need a Smartphone on you at all times because you are basically STUPID. You don't commute on Nassau County buses. That does not keep you from making stupid remarks without any substantiation. You are here as a troll to insult people as you are an attention whore. It also does not take a proctologist to see a big, sore ASSHOLE. It was most pleasant here for the day and a half around Yom Kipper when you could not be around. |

They were, and they were deigned and built before much of the SAS construction was even started so that’s less of an excuse for the SAS not to be able to accommodate 75 ft cars since the dimensions of the cars were known ahead of time so unlike the rest of the iND and BMT, there should have been no need to modify the tunnels.. |

The R44/46 cars were designed and built for SAS service.R44s were designed in the very late 60s,with the first shells built by 1970. If plans had gone accordingly, with ALL RAIL CARS,and lines purchased/built ...the R1 to 9 cars would have dissapeared sooner than they did,the 75ft cars would never been seen on the original trunk lines, operating solely on SAS Trunk and branch routes. |
