At its opening in 1903 it was the world's largest and busiest train station. And in its heyday it was served by 22 railroads, the most of any single terminal in the world. In the 1940s it handled 100,000 passengers a day.

Anyone can ride most of the Wabash route out to the suburban Delmar station (pictured) on the light rail. With the "steam road" ROW the LRV sets turn a mean wheel!

On both sides of the LR track you can see stone pillars of two different heights with nothing on top of them. Those were the supports to the stairs from the station to the platform. I can remember when the stairs were still intact, before the former Wabash platforms were converted to Metrolink use.
