At its opening in 1903 it was the world's largest and busiest train station. And in its heyday it was served by 22 railroads, the most of any single terminal in the world. In the 1940s it handled 100,000 passengers a day. Here is the original track layout. Arriving trains went past the wyes and then backed into the station:    |
