New South Ferry station

According to nycsubway.org, the "new" South Ferry station is scheduled to re-open sometime (not specified) this year. Is this still true? Is work actually being done there?

I read 2017 in some newspaper.

The station has already been closed longer than it had been open.

I'm not sure when they'll be done, but I rode on the #1 just today into (old) South Ferry. I can state for a fact that work is being done on the tracks and tunnel.

Rails are in place, but not connected to the "mainline". Red flashing lanterns are in place, just southeast of the home signal that splits the route into the old and new tunnels. In fact, I think the switch itself is somewhat intact, though there is a break in the rails just after it that would prevent inadvertent running into the new station. There's also some plywood. That work is taking place in the "new" station is apparent.

Also at street level- the separate (not the one shared with the R- thought that one is also coming along) entrance on Minuit Plaza and the one on State Street look well along in reconstruction.

"The station has already been closed longer than it had been open."

Its a piker compared to the other classic closed stations.

Court Street - Open 10 years, closed 70 years*
City Hall - open 41 years, closed 71 years.
18th Street - open 44 years, closed 68 years.
91st Street - open 55 years, closed 57 years.

Worth Street is reaching the tipping point soon - it was open for 58 years (1904-1962) and it has now been closed for 54 years.

We don’t know for sure if it ever flooded or not. I heard that one of the reasons that the Pitkin Av subway was not continued past that point was that the builders encountered some sort of water condition that would have mede construction past that point either impossible or at best, prohibitively expensive.

Everything is built like crap today. There's no quality. The Brooklyn Bridge is 133 years old. With proper maintenance and assuming it avoids human destruction or natural disaster, it should easily last another 133. How many buildings going up today will still be around in 2149?

That may be true, but each of these stations except for possibly Court Street were intentionally, permanently closed. For any abandoned station, that they would eventually be closed longer than they were open is inevitable. No one ever intended to close South Ferry for more than a couple of days.
