LOL...when I was at John Jay College of Criminals, there was an old salt of a law professor, who used to say jurors were to stupid to get out of jury duty...

NOPE, The equipment needs to be powered up, air compressors, HVAC, lighting etc etc.

If you climb up on top of a rail car, you do it on your own dime.

I actually had a similar situation a few years ago. When the jury panel went up to the courtroom, it turned out that one of the lawyers had represented me in a auto accident a few years earlier. Needless to say, I was excused. It also turns out that when the schedule office was at 130 Livingston, I would hang out in the Old Cafe across the street and hoist a few with a number of lawyers, court clerks and even a few judges. Also One of the societies i belong to has a number of judges among its membership so the likelihood of serving before a judge I don’t personally know or opposite a lawyer I don’t personally know is highly diminished.

It has gotten almost silly at jury duty around here. The number of people getting excused got so high that (of course) they overreacted and make almost everyone come in (if their group number is called) if you have already had a postponement, and sit in the pool for a day before being excused. they used to automatically excuse lots of people by job category. Last time I sat and chatted it up with a woman who was an assistant DA. Not the slightest chance of ever getting on a criminal case, knew just about every judge and lawyer, wasn't going to get picked for a civil jury either. She had to stay the day, its supposed to make everyone else feel better. I would have felt better if our tax dollars were paying her to prosecute a criminal, and not knit a scarf. At least we have tv and internet access by me now.

The plaintiff has voluntarily dropped his lawsuit against Amtrak and the MBTA, after the judge in the case ruled that his own drunkenness and reckless behavior could be brought up by the defense at trial.

The judge specifically cited the "obvious danger of the live catenary wire" in his decision.

To be more precise, the plaintiff's lawyer realized he'd spend his time more productively playing golf than continuing with this case.

the plaintiff should have been fined for 1. trespassing, and 2. filing a nuisance action. The attorney should have been reprimanded for # 2.
