It's a shame the county couldn't find a way to work with the railroad, to kee those tourist dollars coming in.

Why do you say that?

It's the same ROW where the heavily used bike path will be built.

All those joggers and cyclists will need a place to wind down and relax at Kingston Point Park..

If the CMRR must be sacrificed for the path, what's to stop Ulster County from giving the TMNY the boot ?

Sounds like politics to me. Tourists drive from all over to ride the train as I have. Will cyclists pedal for miles to traverse the ROW where the trains once ran ?

This should reverberate throughout the tourist train industry that their line could be next.

Ulster county has been gunning for them for years now, which is why they're working so hard to rebuild it. And as Bill said, their railroad is also part of the original Ulster and Delaware Railroad right of way.

I wonder if Ulster county is going to trash their tourist center at the Thruway as well? This is how far up their asses their heads are ...

Tear it down!

More like to me some very selfish individuals who are looking out only for themselves and think their property values will skyrocket without the train there.

Back in 1957, this was shut down, in Ulster in Ireland, along with the main line it connected to. The Fintona horse-drawn shuttle "tram", which was on a branch of the main line from Derry to Enniskillen. This pic is by Fintona Junction and dates from September in '57.

There isn't anything along most of the route. It runs along the Esopus creek. Maybe the bears can sleep in later without the train.

No. TMNY is under lease from the City of Kingston for 99 years, and recently had $860,000 in federal and state money for track upgrades. We're here to stay.

For some reason the County is uninterested in a Rail-With-Trail solution for using the CMRR corridor, but down here along the Trolley Museum's line they are building trails beside the tracks. Rail in harmony with Trail.

About that tourist caboose, I think they are looking to relocate it. The land its on is slated for new development (a cluster of a few stores and a restaurant). Across the street is supposed to be a new 100+ room hotel.

For some reason the County is uninterested in a Rail-With-Trail solution for using the CMRR corridor,

Is there a huge demand for this bike trail that will evict CMRR ?

Were people protesting and pressuring the Ulster County wags for this trail ?

"Is there a huge demand for this bike trail that will evict CMRR?" The trail supports say there is, and that it outweighs any economic benefit that the railroad may potentially have. I don't see how that can be true after seeing the Thomas and Polar crowds spilling into nearby businesses before and after their scheduled trips.

"Were people protesting and pressuring the Ulster County wags for this trail?" It seems the trail supporters have been well organized, very vocal, and have swayed key politicians to their side. Though railroad supporters have jammed the county legislature chamber to overflowing for certain key votes, very little headway was made against the trail-only point of view.

Now that the days of a contiguous railroad through the county are counting down to the 31st of this month, there is some pressure coming from new fronts to help save the railroad. The next 28 days will be very interesting for CMRR.

Lived there for 9 years before moving north, I still can't get over the fact that the county would be trashing CMRR after all the work they've done. I remember when they were also coming after you guys too. Glad to hear you have a solid lease!

The horse-drawn car shared its tracks with the occasional steam-hauled freight, too. If the entire railroad hadn't been shut down, it might have been replaced with a single-car DMU.
