Posted by milantram on Fri Aug 28 21:11:31 2015 Hi, gang!Last week, I was in Charlotte, where I finally got to see and ride the new CityLynx Streetcar. Here are some pics, just to whet your appetite. There will be more soon.  At the Trade Street stub, adjacent to Time Warner Cable Arena, the Charlotte Transportation Center, and the Lynx Light Rail CTC Arena Station. August 19, 2015.  After crossing Kings Road, the streetcar approaches CPCC (Central Piedmont Community College). In this HDR photo, taken during a break in the monsoon weather, the Bank of America Building, with its "bird's nest" top, is on the right, and the Duke Energy Center's on the extreme left. For the proposed extensions west and east, They'll have to buy more cars. Three Gomaco Birney replicas won't do it. But Funding--and politics--is still iffy.I have to say that ridership is very strong. Estimates were for 900 daily riders. For the first month, ridership topped 1,507 average riders a day. Most riders go to/from CPCC, and acceptance is high among those riders. |

Up through my latest look in July, there wasn't much to photograph, just a lot of ground-level clearance work. The outer part of North Tryon St. (US 29) was a real mess of orange barrels and netting, and traffic-lane shifts. But I understand some of the embankments and bridges are becoming visible now. |
