I was once told that the life expectancy of the R32 was 35 - 40 years because the frames and trucks suffer from metal fatigue. Even afterba complete overhaul, the car frames and truck frames would be original. Were they reinforced or could these cars be less safe? |

They should consider having the R32s return with blue doors and a light blue seating interior. I am tired of that tin can look. Then people wouldn't mind. Or maybe just advertisement something different. |

Looking at the truck numbers on R32s, you can tell that they were from any car class R10 to R42. Look up the numbers sometime! |

The ONE really rider friendly feature of the otherwise terrible Slant R40s was the original giant route sign with the very important colorfield. You instantly knew either to move toward or away from the platform edge. |

I think the MTA wants to replace the old equipment ASAP. After the R212's are in service, believe it or not, the original R62's will be reaching the end of their useful lives. The MTA is committed to procuring new cars for the next 30 years. Adding another 10 to the R32's lives doesn't really help. |

Do you think that the stresses placed on a VIA railcar, riding on soft roadbed are anywhere near as taxing on the frames as the sharp curves and hard concrete roadbed of the subways? |

Believe it or not, they make the CR on an R32 J work between the 5th and 6th cars (Manhattan end), not in the middle between the 4th and 5th cars even though there are CR controls there, apparently to make it consistent with the R42. |

A group of condemned BMT standards received a last-minute stay of execution when 32 R-16s were sent over with fresh GG signs to combat the problem of R-1/9s dropping like flies. There weren't enough R-38s on hand yet, as deliveries were crippled by a strike at SLCC. |

I don't know exactly how many BMT standards were yanked off the scrapline; it might have been 20. They went right back to revenue service once the S for Scrap had been painted over. |
