Nope, not too reasonable. No such things ensued when far fewer trains used those tunnels and Hoboken Division passengers transferred to buses or PATH. (Never mind the restored ferry services.)

Actually, the basic priciples of where to locate stations, and which cities to serve are well understood. You look at destinations which draw riders, catchment areas of rider residences and what (if any) ROW linking these places can be acquired.

Tunneling not being an area of experience or expertise of mine, let me pose another question. Wouldn't the use of a conventional TBM presuppose rock tunneling, or can they also be used in silt and clay layers? We have debated diameter and single versus dual bore, and I threw out the notion of precast float into place, but I'm wondering if the geology and geography might restrict or obviate the use of a particular methodology.

TBMs come in 2 flavors, pressure balanced and non-pressure balanced. Both can be configured to bore through sedimentary soils, bedrock rock or both. Pressure balanced TBMs are typically employed for boring through sedimentary soils that are below the water table.

Both types were used down here in WMATA land. Pressure balanced through sedimentary soils only, Navy Yard to Southern Avenue. Non-pressure balanced through bedrock rock only, Rock Creek Park to Pooks Hill Road.

Thank you, that is good stuff. Just as an aside, I believe the sections of the 63rd st tunnel were cast in Maryland.

Built in the same shipyard that built the sunken tubes tunnels on the WMATA Yellow line under the Washington Channel.

What can be done to streamline operations at NYP and allow more capacity should two additional North River tracks be built?

How would a WTC terminal NJT train access Sunnyside? Even in your old proposal to run it into the Bushwick/lower montauk, it's not doable.

The LIRR mane LION runs into Long Island City, and instead of crossing the river to the west, it crosses the river in a southerly direction hitting Manhattan around Avenue C and following that around to WTC.

Still not a fan of this proposal....I'd swap yard space in the Jamaica area for an LIRR yard in Jersey

So, you are going to dig all through lower Brooklyn, connect to the Atlantic Avenue line and flood into Jamaica Station, which is already a tight area with little space for more train yards.

NOPE, Plan of LION has more appeal. And while LIRR no longer owns the Lower Montauk, it is still a viable ROW, LION suggests leaving the NY&A on that track, but making a new elevated line on that same ROW to handle the new traffic, and NJT has immediate access to the Sunnyside yards, why should they have to maintain a different facility.
