Was the Yellow Line running to Fort Totten during the day? There is no pocket track there, so turning trains would block the through trains on the Green Line to Greenbelt. Looking at the WMATA service advisory, it seems they could have been clearer about this. However, Metro did recommend that you avoid transferring and use a station on your line, in your case, Farragut North, Metro Center, Gallery Place, Judiciary Square, or Union Station.Starting in 1999 and until a few years ago, they ran a special service pattern on July 4th, but it never featured Yellow Line trains to Fort Totten or Greenbelt IIRC. |

In addition to what Oren said, Not running Yellow line trains to Fort Totten frees up rolling stock to make up more 8 car trains.Like I have said many time before, WMATA has a rolling stock shortage. With the opening of the Silver line almost a year ago the rolling stock shortage has become more acute. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |

Unfortunately I was coming back from the Virginia side... I had thought that transferring to the red somewhere other than Gallery Pl would have been better for avoiding crowds. |
