Updated the comprehensive version of 129 Mile Area Regional System Track Schematic to reflect the changes in the layout of Dulles Yard from the preliminary engineering to the final engineering.

Final engineering plan shows provision for a 6th shop track with 4 servicing bays, expansion of administrative space in shop building, area for warehouse expansion, a 2 track heavy damage repair shop and 5 yard storage tracks that can hold 60 more cars.

I have no plans to up date any of the other schematics posted at my Flickr Photostream to reflect changes to the Silver line or anywhere else on the railroad.

Nice! Pretty complicated system for something with no express tracks!

Then you'd blush at track maps for London Underground. :-)

Actually it's pretty simple, at scale everything is spread out.

There are no flat junction, even into yards that are not at the ends of the lines.

Trust me, it's well worth looking at, and then spending the money to go view it in person.

System Track Schematic revision.

I have update the schematic base on observations I made on 10 02 2016 and did some error correction and added other things based on documents recently acquired.

I was just railfanning on WMATA today and noticed they put back the third track at National Airport, is there any reason for that?

To restore the flexibility that existed before it was converted into a single crossover. To allow National Airport to be a short turn terminal.

With the fully functioning pocket track WMATA can single track on either track between National Airport and Braddock Road, In the previous configuration single tracking southbound trains had to crossover from track C2 to track C1 at Pentagon City before returning to track C2 at Braddock Road. Only being able to use Pentagon City to crossover increased the single tracking distance for southbound trains by 1.35 miles.
