I was just railfanning on WMATA today and noticed they put back the third track at National Airport, is there any reason for that?To restore the flexibility that existed before it was converted into a single crossover. To allow National Airport to be a short turn terminal. With the fully functioning pocket track WMATA can single track on either track between National Airport and Braddock Road, In the previous configuration single tracking southbound trains had to crossover from track C2 to track C1 at Pentagon City before returning to track C2 at Braddock Road. Only being able to use Pentagon City to crossover increased the single tracking distance for southbound trains by 1.35 miles. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |
