Thanks! Like I said, I had no idea of when that happened but NX pics were rare so I kept that one.

Correct. The TA was trying to make them look like the R-29s and 33s even though they didn’t repaint the interiors in them in R-29 colors. The TA, however did paint the R-12s through 15s interior in the R-32/36 paint scheme when those cars were painted red.

Yeah, but for NYC residents it wasn't all that bad. Pretty much every school and city building was painted in that crap. You got used to it. :)

especially on the interior of an R-7a/R-9. It clashed terribly with the charcoal grey fiberglas seats.

If it weren't for all the cans of deep green paint laying around, they would have painted the lamp posts and street lights with that too. :)

Or as in my case, shared with several other fans. Otherwise sadly empty. So the question arises, how much would the MTA have had to spend to create acouple of "manual blocks" so as to move faster along the route? A couple of tiny shacks w/dedicated phone lines calling the permanent towers should have sufficed. Too bad there was no room to add a single express platform along the route.

Why was the Sea Beach built without any express stations, anyway? The Brighton, rebuilt in a similar design at nearly the same time, managed to fit 3 express stations into its open-cut section.

I don’t know the entire history, but there s a scale model in the transit museum of an express station in an open cut that is supposed to be of a proposed layout of the Kings Hwy station on the Sea Beach Line. Why it was never built that way is anybody’s guess but none of the original Bronx IRT lines had express stations on them either.

The Brighton line was rebuilt both earlier and later, in parts. Church and PP are newer than the Sea Beach, Newkirk Plaza and the embankment section are older. The border between the two sections is between Church and Beverley. You can see where the walls change contour.

The later rebuild was part of the Dual Contracts correct? Who was reponsible for the earlier rebuild (the BRT?) and when did it take place?
Where can I read about this further? One of William Fausser's books, or an old NY Div. Bulletin (or elsewhere)?
Thanks.
