The MTA Is Not Apologizing Anymore For Service Delays |
|
Posted by heypaul on Wed Apr 15 22:22:57 2015 A new series of prerecorded announcements are being added to the NTT database. Here is the first, to be used when train service is delayed due to a customer death due to suicide or being thrust onto the tracks. We Are Not Sorry for Any Inconvenience |

As we say her in Brooklyn, nor for nothin’ but the MTA’s policy on passenger announcements borders on ridiculous. Originally, crews on trains stalled between stations were supposed to make announcements only after the train was stopped for 4 minutes and then every 2 minutes after. The policy was eventually changed to require crews to make the announcements as soon as the train stopped. That meant that often the train would start moving before the announcement should be completed. Such announcements arm made so often that passengers often tune them out and when an announcement of genuine importance is made the announcements are ignored. Ann incumbents for trains being held in stations either for connections or till schedule departure time are even more rediculous and should be eliminated entirely. The only announcements that should be made on trains held in stations are those indicating genuine delays or service adjustments made due to delays. |

I's better than those prerecorded, annoying-as-hell, "Ladies and gentlemen, blah-blah-blah," canned announcements. Makes me want to yell, "WILL YOU SHUT UP?!?!?" |

I was on an R46 F train. I guess the conductor didn't want us to feel deprived so he recited one of the "If you see something, say something" announcements as we rode under the river. |

I still remember that deep-voiced conductor on an R-44 Abbott back around 1980 who reminded everyone, "No smoking on the train, no smoking on the train." |

If you don't like those canned announcements, you better avoid cars 6555-51/6521-25 like the plague. As part of test pilot to reduce dwell times because of long automated announcements, the MTA in their infinite wisdom, added a 30 second recording that boils down to "don't block the doors as others exit the train" that plays at every major transfer point as part of the arriving announcements. |
