Posted by Robert From Queens on Thu Apr 16 11:25:02 2015 There's a picture in Andy Sparberg's book on page 93 showing a new entrance that was added to the station February 1962.Which end of the station was this? Was this at 67th Avenue or 67th Drive? Robert |

After Alexander's Department Store was built on Queens Blvd between 63 Rd and Junction Blvd in the late '50s, a new subway entrance was built right in front of the store at that location, and it might have been 1962. This is on the north-west corner of the station. There was always a similar entrance on the south-west corner, which had been developed decades before the Alexander's lot, which remained a vacant lot until the late '50s. (This is now a Sears.)These two entrances do not pass through the mezzanine with the other entrances, and have high turnstiles only with no booths and no cross-over to change directions. |

The letters "QB" keep making me think of the rush-hour train that ran from 57th St. to Brighton Beach or Coney Island. Especially with the number "67" next to it, which looks a lot like 57... Heck, I used to see those letters on the back page of the N.Y. Post, referring to a football quarterback, and it made me think of that train. |

From 1961 to 1967 (pre-Chrystie St.) QB was the letter designation for the BMT's Brighton Local via Bridge route. It ran evenings, overnights, and weekends between Astoria and Coney Island via the Manhattan Bridge. After Chrystie Street it became a rush hour only route between 57th and Coney Island via the Manhattan Bridge. Today it is the full time Q train. |

Actually, "QB" is the letter code on lampposts on the Belt Parkway and Cross Island Parkway in Queens. But now I can think of subways when I ride those roads. |
