Does PATH still put that Xmas tree in the tunnel where the Uptown and Hoboken branches split off north of Pavonia ? |

Years ago, there was a Metro-North engineer that ran his train in a complete Santa Suit (this time of year, of course). I'd often see him as his cab south Bomb train was pulling into 125th st. in the AM rush. The "jolly fat man" filled up the entire window..He'd also tie a big green wreath on to the adjacent door. I wonder if he ever got called on the carpet for that. In todays PC world, that probably wouldn't be tolerated. |

UNless the MTA requires some sort of uniform for its engineers, I don’t think anyone could say anything about it. |

As far as I know, no uniform requirements exist for the engineers.Heck, the engineer of my train I commuted on wore a suit & tie everyday! Now That raised a few eyebrows. |

Back in the day when the TA required all crews to be in uniforms which prior to 1966 they were required to purchase out of their own pockets, the #1 senior IRT M/M Freddie Day would wear a dark suit, white shirt and tie with a diamond stickpin and a fedora hat to operate his train. The required uniform at the time was overalls in either the pinstripe or hickory stripe and although most M/M disn’t wear them, a matching jumper (jacket) and either a black silk cap similar to the C/R cap or the RR style matching striped cap with badge attached. He retired in 1960 when he reached the maximum retirement age of 70. |
