Temporary platforms at 86th Street and Eighth Avenue, and Manhattan-bound trains will only stop there?Sounds like they'll build over the former E3 tracks and have a cross-platform transfer (solves the ADA issue). Coney Island Express, here we come! |

First off, long overdue. It would be nice if at least during rush hours they have a shuttle bus to bring people closer to the D train. Regarding the National Register of Historic Places, I'm not sure that makes them indestructible, just special. Special places can get facelifts, as far as I know. There's nothing about them that makes them untouchable. I'll bet they're even allowed to remove the station altogether if they leave some commemorative plaque or stone. |

Avenue H was on the national register, I think, but it took NYC landmarks to protect it, and that was the exterior only. I really like the new interior, but it's much different from the old. |

Yup and too bad that after an extensive and expensive restoration of Avenue H, the MTA cannot even maintain this treasure graffiti-free! Wednesday I noticed graffiti on the brick walls of the station house on the southbound platform. |

I.e. track walls along the brighton, as the train leaves Cortelyou, Beverley etc, you can see a line on the walls where the graffiti-free program for the stations ends and the track walls begin. They should all be cleaned and maintained the same way. Eventually the vandals will get the message to stop tagging these walls because the TA will remove it within 48 hours. This is really the only true way to finally eliminate this vandalism. |

I compare the Brighton Track wall graffiti to the acid and scratch damaged glass on virtually every subway car after the spray paint and markers were dealt with regularly. The vandals knew that they could scratch the glass or use the etching acid and the tags would remain for years. Then after the NTT's were delivered and the TA used the protective glass screens the vandals eventually gave up. It is important to note that the plastic screens do not prevent scratching or acid, but it is easier for the TA to simply remove the damaged barrier and install another one. The bottom line is the vandals eventually realized that the TA is now maintaining the glass. Today it is very rare to see vandalized glass on subway cars, buses and even bus stop shelters. Now if they could only address elevator glass, glass panes in stations such as 50th & 8, 57th & 6th, Grand Central, that would make a difference. THey should also finally address the scratches on the interior walls of the R-62 / R-68. They have had those scratches for almost three decades now. |
