Looks to me like they can't figure out a replacement strategy. If there's another 75' car order, just order some extra units for SIR.

If the subway will only be ordering 60 footers, they'll need even more for SI, as 5x60'= 300', as does 4x75'...

The signal system in SIR is different, maybe the TA doesn't want to bother with modifying them to run on SIR signals only to run in SI for like six years.

Why six years?
Select a group of cars from the 160B group, about eighty cars, modifying to SIR specs and Keep them there for fourth years.
that should take care of replacement cars for the near future.

They would cost a lot of modify due to the different signals. Plus their bodies would have to be modified: steps on the side of the cars which are not there now.

NYCT has made their decision: 2020. We need the cars here. We will need more cars, more than the 50 cars arrainged in 5 car sets when Second Ave. opens.

I assume you meant the SIR should have 160s on a temporary basis until SIR got new cars on its own.

IMO its a waste to send 160s there, the FIND would be wasted, with the 188s they went back to the Strip Maps as odds are those cars won't run on any line but the 7, SIR will probably have the same route for the foreseeable future lol, with the North Shore it seems there heavy in favor of BRT rather than have trains run there again.

The R-46 is still a very basic and reliable car. Unfortunately when placed in a fleet of newer cars and with the prospect of replacement down the road, maintenance might miss a few things.

Yep. Deja Vu all over again. In the final years of the R-1/9s, most ceiling fans didn't work, many had one leaf doors, emergency 3d rail gap lights often didn't work. Dead motors..etc.Maintenance was minimal. Bottom line,If it charged up, it went on the road was the mindset.
It was criminal the way most of those cars were ran straight. into the ground, especially the ones on the E,EE,F & GG lines, the lines I rode the most.

There is a higher spare factor for R32's: 222 cars on the roster with 144 cars needed for AM C service with 136 required for PM service + 10 cars for the A.

Recently the L and M have been requiring more train sets for rush hour service so these will help out.

For the PM rush the A line requires 2 additional trains vs. the AM rush. One train, an R68 or 68A is borrowed from the B line, because they need one less train for the PM rush vs. the AM rush.

The other train ran on the C line for the AM rush because that too requires one less train for the PM rush. After the AM rush 168 sends one train to 207 YD where 2 cars are added on for PM rush A service.

NO!

The first 60 R-44s manufactured by St. Louis Car company were manufactured with frames that were 25% lighter than the frames of the rest of the order. Those were the cars that had the significant frame erosion. Even then, the NYCT R-44s were manufactured without vents in the car body near the frame. These vents would have allowed the escape of moisture that ultimately did damage the frames. The Staten Island cars had the vents.

There are the 40 or 50 or 60 (can't remember) R179's coming in 5 cars sets. While forever to be fleet orphans, I do not know what they are for.

Q train diversion to SAS ? What backfills for Astoria ?
Send some R46's to R68's to SI ? Doesn't look like that is happening.

I do think 20 such cars should be modified to SI, and SMS only 44 R44's, which would allow R44 use only during the rush periods.

Right. The MP72's were 81' long, and could not use a crossover near the tunnel as it was. They also ran 3 cars max. With a 4 car M-3, they'd have to close one car, and put up new stop and conductor boards.

MN and LIRR do not have M-3's to spare. NH is junking the M-2/4/6. Even with pantographs ripped off, would they clear SIR with the roof humps ?

They Should reassign the R68A 5001 to 5064 or to 5070 to SIRT and also turn them back to single cars again for SIRT when the R179 come in and retire the R44 in 2015 or 2016 car for car when R179 arrive then keep all and SMS all R32/42 again run them on the B in the winter and Fall,Spring and the summer in the Q the extra R32 cars remain go to the Q for the 2ave ext. and W coming back to life Ditmar blvd to Bay parkway D line non rush to 9ave rather then Whitehall station so it can serve the people who want to go futher to Brooklyn when the R is alway delay, and if any left over R32 cars is remain after enough cars to cover the W, assign a train of R32 on each line as a gap/spare train for the A,C,D,E,F,M,N,R line

when the R68 is time for retire then that when SIRT will get new cars

I can't follow that. Can you break that up into sentences ?
