NO!The first 60 R-44s manufactured by St. Louis Car company were manufactured with frames that were 25% lighter than the frames of the rest of the order. Those were the cars that had the significant frame erosion. Even then, the NYCT R-44s were manufactured without vents in the car body near the frame. These vents would have allowed the escape of moisture that ultimately did damage the frames. The Staten Island cars had the vents. |
