Last week I had a photo job shooting a Business Car trip. BNSF has a business car train that pulls four to eighteen cars, depending upon the trip. This particular day it pulled twelve cars:

Business Cars Car No.

Glacier View BNSF 30 Rear car; observation end to the rear

Mountain View BNSF 28 Next to Glacier View

Lake Superior BNSF 10 Kitchen end to Mountain View

Valley View BNSF 29 Next to Lake Superior

Bay View BNSF 31 Next to Valley View; seats facing east

Flathead River BNSF 41 Next to Bay View

Colorado River BNSF 44 Next to Flathead River

Powder River BNSF 45 Next to Colorado River

Fox River BNSF 40 Next to Powder River

Fred Harvey BNSF 11 Kitchen end to Fox River

Missouri River BNSF 04 Vestibule to Mt Rainer

Mt Rainer BNSF 51 Head car

Motive power was two BNSF ES44C4's led by FWWR SD40R #2023 (Ex-GCFX 3102, ex-SP 8913, ex-SP 7369, nee SP 8455). The train backs into Ft. Worth's Stockyard Station and the motive power uncouples from the train then pulls forward so as to not block 23rd St.:

 photo 8044-0032_zpse2d60bca.jpg

BNSF police guard the crossing:

 photo 8044andBNSFpolice-0078_zps578567e1.jpg

All is quite on the station lead before the train arrives:

 photo Stationlead3-0008_zps4efc7a10.jpg

And then the train arrives, backing into the station. Bringing up the rear is Glacier View, Full Dome /Theater Lounge, nee-GN 1390, built in 1955:

 photo Backingintostation1_zps917348a8.jpg

 photo GlacierView-0020_zpsc8bd532c.jpg

Followed by Club/Lounge Mountain View, nee-GN, built by ACF in 1951:

 photo MountainViewwithattendant-0046_zps6f8efa94.jpg

Next was dining car Lake Superior, nee-NP, built by Budd in 1958. The car has dining accommodations for 48 people:

Then Club/Lounge Valley View, nee-ATSF, built in 1947 by Pullman:

 photo ValleyView-0022_zpsa9b70de0.jpg

Next is Full Dome/Lounge Bay View, nee-ATSF, built in 1954 by Budd. It was bought for service on the famed El Capitan:

 photo BayView-0023_zpsfbaa75aa.jpg

In front of BV was Bi-Level Coach Flathead River, nee-SP, built in 1955 by Pullman. The car's passenger capacity is a total of 43 people, this being divided into a 20-person capacity in the lower level, and a 23-person capacity in the upper level:

 photo FlatheadRiver-0024_zps2c951444.jpg

Moving ahead was Bi-Level Coach Colorado River and Powder River, both built in 1955 by Pullman and configured the same as Flathead River:

 photo PowderRiver-0026_zps138b0571.jpg

Recently painted and serviced (note the COT&S date) GCS 41 truck:

 photo GSC41trucks-0027_zps973ba569.jpg

Next was Bi-Level Coach/Lounge Fox River, nee SP-3703. There is a bar which adjoins the service area:

 photo FoxRiver-0028_zps435a1093.jpg

Moving ahead was dining car Fred Harvey, built by Pullman in 1950 for the ATSF:

 photo FredHarvey-0029_zps8515f6b6.jpg

Coupled to FH was sleeper Missouri River. Built in 1955 for NP, the car is handicap-equipped, remodeled in 1982, and has accommodations of staterooms A and B, complete with double beds. There is dining space for 8 people, and observation seating for 7:

 photo MissouriRiver-0030_zps3dadef0a.jpg

And just behind the motive power was Baggage/Power car Mt. Ranier, built in 1964 by Pullman for the ATSF:

Motive power uncoupled leaving the train for boarding at Stockyard Station:

While passengers arrived to get their name tags, I hopped on board to take some pictures while the cars were empty except for the crew. Here we see some of the passengers gathering; Hood County election commissioners:

Once home to cowboys, cattlemen and outlaws, today the Stockyards National Historic District is one of the most popular attractions in Texas. The streets are lined with historic buildings, restaurants, shops, saloons and other attractions. From 1890 until the 1950's, the Stockyards was a very important livestock center, with over a million head of cattle sold in 1907. This heritage is remembered with a twice daily cattle drive, a.k.a., "The Herd":

Valley View. Note the ATSF logo on the tables:

 photo ValleyViewinterior-0065_zpse80ecfdd.jpg

Galley cars upper and lower. Only the rear five cars were used for passengers; the forward seven cars were for crew only:

 photo Gallerycarinterior-0070_zpse9c6d6ec.jpg

Life's uncertain; eat dessert first:

Lounge/bar car:

 photo Barcar1-0057_zps14557845.jpg

Bay View

 photo BayView1-0055_zpsb0f3844b.jpg

And away we went. The view from the theater window in Glacier View is really neat to see:

 photo GlacierView1-0199_zps23463035.jpg

And at the end of the trip, our engineer poses proudly on his iron horse:

 photo 2023withRodney-0237_zps23dad701.jpg

I worked my tail off that trip and enjoyed every minute of it! I hope you enjoy the pictures.

I was interested in shots of those interiors as well. There are a couple of photos of the interiors of Fox River and Colorado River on RRPictureArchives, if you have patience to wait on their server:

IMHO the photo of Colorado River's interior is most interesting. It looks like the floor is still several feet below the bottom of the window. It seems difficult to squeeze a lower level between the upper level floor and the carbody floor.

Depends upon the year, Kevin. Up until the early 1950's traditional equipment was used: coaches, lunch counter-diner, coach-observation, etc. In 1953-54, 14 "Big Dome" coach-lounge cars were purchased by the Sante Fe. The Big Domes remained part of the El Cap for two years. In 1956 the train was re-equipped with 47 Hi-Level cars. In 1964, 68 more Hi-Level cars were purchased.
