Glad you enjoyed. When I was very young, I vaguely remember riding the polo grounds shuttle with my dad. He was an IRT motorman for many years starting in the early 1950's and operated trains on all the IRT lines including the polo grounds shuttle and the 3rd Ave. El in Manhattan. Unfortunately I never ride the 3rd Ave. El. The line he enjoyed the most, after the 3rd Ave Elevated was the Flushing line since it had a run that was mostly above ground and since we lived in Queens at the time was the closest terminal to our home.

Try and get a hold of Roger Arcaras two tapes, one on the sixth & ninth ave. els + old brooklyn els. the 6th & 9th portions have pretty good footage of the Polo Grounds shuttle in black & white.

The other tape has a significant portion devoted to the shuttle, with color film, and also covers the Dyre Ave. Line, late 40s & 50s with el cars, then Hi-V's.

I think those who sell these now, have maybe transferred them to DVD.

and one or both of these may have been uploaded to youtube as well.

"i rode da bronx 3rd ave el before they tore it down in 1973."

Good for you! I hope you were able to ride the World's Fair Cars and the last remaining Steinway's.

I rode it summer of '69, they were still running then. Gave a whole different "IRT" flavor to it, than the later postwar R stock.

So we both remember the 63-64 cars when they were new. Good stuff! That was one of the best, if not the best liveries the TA ever had. Too bad they never kept up with mainenance of the original colors and painted them red instead.

Maybe not. Just happy we clicked on a common interest. Nevertheless, Dad loved trains and model trains, and we took several fan trips on Q cars on mainly BMT eastern division. He did operate non-revenue trains to CI yards a few times. Miss those time now that I live in CA.

Dad's name was Richard Poole. Nickname was Doc, since he wanted to be a medic during WWII, so the Army Air Corp made him part of ground crews for B17 and later B29 bombers since he was very mechanically inclined.

That name doesn't ring a bell, but I figured I'd ask just in case. One of the M/M i knew also had a nickname. His proper name was Patrick Loughlin, but he was known in later years as "Mother" or "Ma" Loughlin because he planted and took care of a garden in Mosholu Yd.
