Nope ... "Silk Road" is who you want to hire for that. If you were up here, there's a few carriers who move "manufactured homes" down the road who would have no issue with a railcar, but they'd be loathe to move their equipment through the city lest it get tagged or jacked. :)

But all them wheels cost, as well as the redirects around height limits. Chicago's new subway cars go past here almost every other day headed from Bombardier up north down to I-88 and on their way across where it's cheap. :)

Railcars need special wheels.

That is the coolest!
Thanks for sharing!

So, I guess if you want, you can build your own basement mock-up of an arnine, instead, with the proper tools, designers and contnractors, you'd just have to locate real arnine interior parts, or you'd have to mock-up those as well.

I rode on those 5000-series cars in July with my aunt. They run smoothly and quietly; you don't have to hold your ears in the State St. subway. Plus the air conditioning works nicely.

Clarence wasn't with the Country Gentlemen, he was with the Kentucky Colonels with his brother Roland who I believe is currently playing with the Nashville Bluegrass band. His accident occurred shortly after the Colonels reunited. I play mostly the traditional Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, Stanley Bros although I have to say that my favorite bluegrass band is the Seldom Scene as originally organized and my favorite mandolin player is the late John Duffey although unfortunately I couldn't sing as high as he did if my life depended on it. I play mandolin with the current bands I'm in but can old my own on the banjo and can do some guitar work although nowhere near the dexterity of Doc Watson or Tony Rice. I also have written a few originals but am not really a prolific songwriter.

Thanks for sharing/talking music.
Yes, The Kentucky Colonels - at some point brain cells don't seem to be what they were in the memory dept. I actually had a Kentucky Colonels CD, bought it in the mid 90s - was that after they reunited?
I think it had some studio material and a few tracks that were live.

Had to sell it along w/the rest of my CD/ LP collection when I really needed the cash - liking the music a great deal, but not actively following bluegrass, the name just slipped from memory onto the tip of my tongue and wsnt "further out of range" from there; so the Country Gentleman was the closest name that came to memory.

I did not know about his brother. Is he the same kind of unique player as far as technique & interpretation? I will have to file his name and his band away as something to search out.

The Stanley Bros. I haven't heard of, but everyone else you've mentioned I've at least listened to a small portion of their work - whether records borrowed from friends, or coming across a live (or repeat) concert on NPR for example. I love everything I've heard by the Seldom Scene, and John Duffey is a name I'll have to keep in mind as well.

During the late '60s people began to explore Bluegrass, after hearing the Byrds, Sweetheart of the Rodeo, Gram Parsons' albums, acoustic Dylan etc. I lived in Boston from '72-'92 and worked in a record store there during the mid 70s. The manager, went on to work for Rounder Records, is now an independent producer for them and other labels.

Before and after he left, the store always had a large inventory of Old Timey and Bluegrass in stock. In spite of being a major jazz fan (from about 1970 to date), I used to pour over those Rounder releases in the bins, and my mouth would water - always thought, if I had the dough, I'd buy 20 or 35 of those traditional recors at one clip.

Being a jazz fan, I actually ended up buying over 100 Blue Note recordings over the years (original albums LPs/ CDs and multi record reissues on the Mosaic label etc.). First club I started going to was Slugs - 242 East Third St. (between aves. B & C), music played there was like walking into a Blue Note recording session.
It was a long walk from the IRT at Astor Place, and even a longer walk from the West 4th St. stop.

The Kentucky Colonels made sporadic appearances on Andy Griffith's TV show in the 60s under the name "the Country Boys" but that was also the name of Mac Wiseman's band so they had to change the name. Since you lived in Boston during the 70s, did you ever go to the Black Rose pub on the corner of state and Commercial Sts? In addition to Bluegrass, I also play traditional Irish music and was part of a Celtic band called the "Black Rose Folk/Roisin Dubh" which is an English to Gaelic translation. We got the gig because the original owner of the pub saw our ads in the NY Irish papers and since our group had the same name and translation as his pub, it seemed only natural that we should play there which we did about once a month in 1976 and 77 till the group broke up.

An R-7 WH stand would have been OK since D type units 6002 and 6003 had almost the identical controller, the only 2 D types to have a WH controller. In fact, the mimeographed instructions issued to the BMT crews on operation of the R-9s specifically mentions that the R-9 master controller is similar to the master controller on D types 6002 and 6003 and is to be handled the same way.
