During the Weekend of 9/20-9/21, All N & Q Trains Will Operate Via the Montague St Tunnel |
|
Posted by heypaul on Mon Sep 15 16:44:14 2014 According to MTA.info, all N & Q trains will operate via the tunnel on the weekend of 9/20. It is hoped that the increased traffic through the tunnel will polish the rails and dilute the stale smell. |

We all know what happened the last time the N, Q and R ran thru the tunnel together. Catastrophic 30+ minute delays on all 3 lines. Use the D at 36th if you're an N/R customer. If major delays at 7th/Flatbush (on the Q), then make an out-of-system transfer between the Q at 7th Ave and # 2,3 at Bergen St.To alleviate massive congestion, they should send the R from Brooklyn over the D line, then over the M/F to Queens. They did that before, so it really boggles the mind why they won't do it again. |

BrooklynTrain said "To alleviate massive congestion, they should send the R from Brooklyn over the D line, then over the M/F to Queens. I happen to have been on one those R trains that ran via D/M and it was empty after Dekalb all the way to Queens Plaza because of confusion. Many people don't check the weekender or bother to read signs posted on platform pillars. 59/Lex looks like weekday rush hour on a Saturday when tons of people wait for an R that never arrives. The objective is not only to get a train from 95th to CTL but also to serve customers. Sure in the event of a stalled train or severe backup along Broadway the D/M is the way to go. |

Back in the olden days, you had the QT, RR and TT running via tunnel at the same time and they managed just fine. How times have changed.... |

The reason for the delays was signal breakdowns in the Montague tunnel when they tried the temporary repairs after the superstorm. That's one of the reasons they did the permanent repairs. There were plenty of times before the storm where they had all three lines using the tunnel weekends with no delays. They must now have enough confidence in the just completed permanent repairs to do this again. The Manhattan Bridge has had tremendous wear and tear on it for the past 13 months and engineers must carefully inspect it to make sure it remains safe. |

I agree, I remember this G.O prior to Sandy and all three services ran though the tubes just fine. |

That appears to be what they were doing last weekend when the D wasn't running over the bridge. |
