Your're wrong, and you don't understand the bus system either.

Do you actually think people will wait up to a half hour, like at night or on weekends at Lynbook for a stinkin' bus to come up from Far Rockaway rather than take a direct train ?

Ever ride a rush hour WH train ? I did for 13 years. My mother did for 22 years. They are well patronized. Offer 1950's style service the rest of the time, and you get what you have.

There is no bus near Westwood. The N32 bus takes twice as long as stops every 3 blocks. Nobody but the transit dependent take Nassau County buses, especially when a train is available. Then why pay $2.50 bus fare to then take the LIRR at Lynbrook, and pay a fare that is not cheap.

If you are such a believer in the N31/N32, which runs through the Five Towns to Far Rockaway, you have also indicated FR Branch is a "useless transit corridor" and the bus is a better option.

Commuter rail is not a subway, so I do not understand this "transit corridor" nonsense.

But i wasn't referencing the Far Rockaway branch. Way different situation. As a rail nilut i totally appreciate the W.H. branch. But it is an oddball line.

Well it is a short branch with 2 good performing stations in good areas, and the other 3 in not so good areas with its last stop about a mile from Hempstead as competition, although in a rather dangerous area. You also may be better off in the rush with a train running express Jamaica - Westwood than a Mail & Milk train from Hollis to Hempstead, which almost all Hempstead trains are.

Understand that Lynbrook is not like Union Tpke where people get off and take the Q10. Railroad commuters by and large don't take County buses.

But Unlimited Metrocard has caused some Franklin Square residents to stop parking in Malverne and sweat out the N6, saving them a Zone 4 Monthly ticket. Likewise, same with with West Hemptead commuters, who tend to be not so well-off as their counterparts further south.

For about 20 years, weekend Far Rockaway service form 1976 was mostly Shuttles to Valley Stream, running 60 or 90 minute intervals, connecting to Long Beach trains, which was an off-peak Brooklyn Line. The affects to FR Branch ridership was predicable. When you run shitty service, you get shitty results. Only West Hemptead shuttles, most of which connect wit FR trains, have to endure a double-transfer to Jamaica. Nobody else on the RR has to put up with double transfers.
