Meanwhile there are folks who have been complaining recently about magazines not showing up. The speculation was true due to Carsten's silence.I wonder if the paid subscribers get the shaft here. |

Maybe Trains or some other magazine will offer to pick up the R&R subscriber list and continue those subscriptions in hopes of getting new customers out of it. But that would work out for them only if there's not a lot of overlap between their subscriber lists. |

The word bankruptcy has not been mentioned but one can suspect that they indeed did file for bankruptcy. Some readers may say that the magazine did seem to go downhill after Hal Carstens passed away five years ago. I had 16 issues remaining on my current subscription and can remember reading the old "Railroad" magazine in the 1950's, long before the merger with "Railfan". I'll miss the magazine! :-( |

BTW did he retire or did he die while still editing the magazine?I also was a big Railroad fan. Remember those girls from the Phillipines advertising themselves near the back of the issue? What was up with that? |

With bankruptcies, "secured creditors" (those with collateral) might get something. "Unsecured creditors?" Don't waste your time, you're already off the list. |

I remember when Electric Lines magazine went out of business due to high printing costs, they offered either a refund, or one the books that NJ International was selling. I took the book Gotham Turnstiles (which was a nice parting gift). It was sad to see Electric Lines go, but I did notice that some of their stories were becoming engineering thesises on certain subjects, such as how to string overhead catenary. |

Unfortunately, most enthusiast publications will probably end this way once the old guard retires or dies off. A few major publications like Trains may survive in a digital-only format, but sites like this one have really hurt magazines since fans can get news and photos almost instantly now. |

That was one of my favorite magazines as well at least one got a good color photo rather than those B&W photos, Traction & Models was another magazine with occasional color photos of trolleys and I loved those plastic car sides they had for sale.
